An environmentally friendly computer manufacturer based in Sheffield has reached an agreement to supply an Icelandic cloud services provider with its servers.
VeryPC, founded in 2004 and growing steadily since, operates a manufacturing facility where it makes ethical PCs and servers. It also has its own ‘green’ data centre, from which it already offers customers remote and scalable storage through its ecoVault range.
The deal with Icelandic company, GreenQloud, will see VeryPC's servers used to provide storage and power for customers around the world. VeryPC says it will achieve triple digit growth next year as a result of the deal.
The specialist eco-friendly servers, named Odeum, feature:
• bespoke thermal conductivity technologies, providing up to 400% greater conductivity for heatsinks against silver based solutions
• embedded thermostatic cooling to deliver efficient energy utilisation
• support for a wide range of virtualization technologies in a scalable, modular platform design
Iceland is thought to be primed for cloud vendors as it has a natural supply of geo thermal energy, is at low risk of earthquakes and has an optimal climate for keeping data centres cool.
The infamous ash clouds that grounded flights around the world pose no problem either.
VeryPC CEO Peter Hoton said: “VeryPC believe that our key strength is the ability to leverage energy savings across all computer equipment through our unique and patented technologies. Cloud computing operators are more in touch with their electricity costs than most and our company has a range of services which help make their lives easier and their businesses more profitable.”
VeryPC says it can achieve a much better environmental performance from its computing equipment because of its unique and patented technologies.
