Hortonworks announce second coming

Yahoo!'s Hortonworks has released a host of upgrades with the second version of its data analytics platform.

Hortonworks has launched version 2 of its Hortonworks Data Platform (HDP) which utilises the Hadoop platform for big data analytics with the enterprise.
 
Hortonworks was formed by Yahoo! last year to harness and promote Hadoop’s data storage and analytics platform. Upon the release of HDP v2, the company stated that the new version of its product would include:
 

  • Next-generation MapReduce Architecture with improved scalability, performance and availability;
  • Enabling of new application types to plug into Hadoop, including stream processing, graph processing, bulk synchronous processing and message passing interface (MPI);
  • HDFS (Hadoop Distributed File System) NameNode High Availability, improving data integrity and supporting multiple failover options;
  • HDFS Federation, providing a clear separation of Namespace and Block Storage and improving scalability, isolation and multitenant architectures; and
  • The most up to date stable Hadoop components including HCatalog, HBase, Hive and Pig.

Eric Baldeschwieler, Hortonworks founder and CEO, said: “With more than three years of development and much anticipation, Apache Hadoop 0.23 delivers important advancements in scalability, performance, high availability and data integrity.

“Apache Hadoop 0.23 is currently being tested across hundreds of applications in the world's largest Hadoop deployment. We are excited to make the technology advancements in Apache Hadoop 0.23 available through an easily consumable version via the Hortonworks Data Platform v2.”
