Ford's new concept car, the Evos, which will feature a range of cloud-based services, is set to be launched this September.
The car, which will début at the Frankfurt Motor Show later this month, will host the Sync connectivity system which will enable the driver to sync their preferences on music, temperature and navigation via the cloud.
With innovative means of using cloud computing outside of the traditional confines of the workplace, Ford claims that the car will be able to connect to your house, telling it to shut the garage door behind you or switch to energy efficiency mode as you pull out of your drive way.
By staying in connection with a cloud-based storage system, the Evos can keep up-to-date with traffic, weather, road maps, the driver's skill level and the vehicle's performance, thus allowing it to constantly monitor and adjust the car settings or navigation routes accordingly.
Ford's chief technical officer Paul Mascarenas said: “By being connected to the cloud, [the Evos] can access data and information that allows the vehicle to understand your preferences as a driver.” This will, in turn, create a more unique, personalised and enjoyable driving experience all thanks to the use of the cloud.
Though still in its infancy, Ford has big plans for the Evos. In the future it hopes the car will take control of the throttle and brakes when you find yourself in a traffic jam leaving the driver free to check their email, calendar or important work documents.
“We want to make the user experience such that customers can't imagine driving anything other than a Ford,” Mascarenas.
No marketing plans or price have as yet been revealed.
